Long-time Tulsa educator George Rudolph Radcliffe Hinkel, Sr. died on June 1 in his home in Tulsa.

George was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1921. He is survived by his wife Patsy Hinkel, his son ***** of Dover, Tennessee; his daughter ***** of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; step-sons,***** of Tulsa, OK and ***** of the Woodlands, TX and his sister ***** of Easton, Pennsylvania. His grandchildren are ***** of Montgomery, Alabama; ***** of Austin, Texas; ***** of Tulsa; ***** of Boston, Massachusetts; ***** and ****** of Tulsa, and ****** serving in the U.S. Army Rangers. His great-grandchildren are *****, *****, *****, *****, *****, and *****. He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton Peter Hinkel and Lucetta Lundsten Hinkel, his brothers Joseph Hinkel and Robert Hinkel of Easton, and his sister Helen Osbeck of Madison, Wisconsin.

George graduated from Easton High School in 1938. He joined the U. S. Army
Air Corp, attended Spartan School of Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, and was
a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Corp during World War II, serving in North Africa and India. He attended the University of Tulsa after the war where he received a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree in 1949 and a Master's Degree of Teaching Arts in
1968. He taught English 35 years in the Tulsa Public Schools at Roosevelt Junior High, Will Rogers High School, and Edison High School. For 30 of these years he also
worked in the library of the Tulsa World and Tribune papers. After retiring from teaching in 1987 George enjoyed working until his death in the hardware department as an Associate at Wal-Mart at the 91st street and then the 101st street stores in Tulsa.


His Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM. on Saturday, June 7 at Faith United Methodist Church in Tulsa. He will be interred in the National Cemetery in Fort
Gibson, Oklahoma. Contributions in memory of George may be sent to the Pastor's Alms Fund, Faith United Methodist Church at 7413 E. 91st Street, Tulsa, OK 74133.
