Institute Founder Dies at 59
George W. Smith, 1016 Chew St., Allentown, daughter of "Constructive Hum an Relationship," died yesterday morning at Allentown Hospital. He was 59.

His book, designed to strengthen business through analyzing character a nd human relations, was published April 15, 1940. At the same time, Smi th Founded the Institute of Human Relations, an organization which train ed speakers and conductors of public forum on subjects related to charact er building and forming constructive ceased to exist some time ago, d ue to Smith's ill health.

Born in Allentown, son of the late Francis F. and Ella (Frankenfield) Smit h, he had been employed as secretary to the chief inspector of ordnan ce of Bethlehem Steel Co in 1915 and was on the advertising sta ff of L. F. Grammes & Sons Inc. in 1920.

He formed his own advertising management and public relations service in 1 929, serving non-competitive accounts in this area. In 1940 he formed t he "Institute of Human Relations." He was last employed in the office of D ietrich Motor Car Co., Allentown.

Besides his book, he collaborated on two conference studies. "The Scien ce of Service" and "human Engineering" with the late Dr. Arthur F. Sheldo n, founder of the Sheldon School, Chicago, in 1932.

Surviving are his wife, the former Beatrice H. Davis; a daughter Doroth y, wife of Milton Bauder, Allentown; four brothers, Robert, Fairlawn, N.J .; Charles and Harry Allentown, and Elmer Bethlehem; two sisters, Mrs. Elw ood Dotter, Allentown, and Mrs. Truston Hughes, Lancaster; a grandson, nie ces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the J. S. Burkhold er Funeral Home, 1601 Hamilton St., Allentown, Calling hours are 7-8:30 p. m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
