Killer on the Railroad
An express train on the Jersey Central Railroad killed Peter Merkle, a track walker at Dryland, last Tuesday. Merkle was struck by the engine while stooping down on the track tightening a bolt. The train was running at a speed of fifty miles an hour. He was thrown down a high embankment and was dead when picked up. The deceased was 51 years old and leaves a widow and five children.
