George F. Merkel
George F. Merkel, who had been blind for thirty years as the result of a premature blast in the slate quarry, died yesterday at his home near Lehigh Gap, Lehigh Township, Northampton County, He was 70 years, 4 months and 2 days of age.

He is survived by his widow, Lizzie C., nee Fritzinger, Merkel, by two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Reichard and Esther Merkel, at home and by a brother, William Merkel, of Rockport. He was a member of Slatington Lodge, 624, I.O. O. F.

The funeral will be held at his late home on Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with continued services and interment at St. John's Towamensing church. Rev. H. E. Moyer will officiate.
