Otis A. Nicholas
Otis A. Nicholas, of 706 Bullock avenue, Yeadon, near Philadelphia, di ed at his home Sunday morning from a complication of ailments, the resu lt of a serious accident he suffered four years ago. Mr. Nicholas was bo rn in 1883 in Lower Saucon township and following the death of his parent s, Mr. and Mrs. David Nicholas, he resided with his brother-in0law and si ster, Mr. and Mrs. Howard R. Laubach, near Riegelsville, and was employ ed at Easton and Pottstown, for a number of years, from where he enlist ed in the U. S. Navy as a machinist in 1910. In 1917 he was commission ed an ensign and served with the Atlantic fleet during the World War, bei ng discharged at the end of the war as a lieutenant. Following the Armist ice, he was assigned in charge of the S.S. Swallow, one of a fleet of abo ut 50 U. S. vessels that sailed for the North Sea and assisted in sweepi ng the mine in the Jutland area. After his discharge from the Navy, he re ceived a license as a marine engineer and for about two years sailed a me rchant vessel, second in command, between Philadelphia and German ports, c arrying coal and provisions. He became employed in 1922 with the Neal Cad illac Company in Philadelphia where he met with an accident that confin ed him to a hospital for 22 weeks.

In 1917, he married Mae Bachman Lauby, of Pottstown, who survives, togeth er with the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Laura B. Laubach, Riegels ville; Mrs. A D. Nace, Quakertown; Mrs. Harvey K. Riegel, Durham; F. E. Ni cholas, Morristown, and William D. Nicholas, of the South Delaware River r oad, Another brother, George D. Nicholas, of South Side, Easton, died in 1 923.

A Masonic funeral will be conducted at his home Wednesday afternoon, wi th interment at Arlington cemetery.
