D. Nicholas, Spanish War Veteran, Dies Ex-Clerk In House Also Saw Service In World War I William D. Nicholas, 85, of Easton R. D. 4, former commander of Wyckoff Ca mp No. 43, Spanish War Veteran, died this morning in Allentown. He was i ll since Aug. 24. Mr. Nicholas was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and World W ar I. He was a private in Co. D. of the 21st Infantry Regiment during t he Spanish-American War and served as a first lieutenant in the Quartermas ter Corps of the Army during World War I. Mr. Nicholas was a clerk in the sergeant at arms office in the House of Re presentatives, Washington, D.C. from 1910 until 1922, when he retired. Born in Williams Township on Feb. 10, 1876, he was a son of the late Dav id and Anna C. Brotzman Nicholas. He resided most of his life on South De laware River Road, Easton R. D. 4. Since his death of his wife, the former Katherine Sandt, in 1951, he resid ed at the home of his nephew, J. Marcus Nicholas, Coffeetown Road, East on R. D. 4. Mr. Nicholas was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church, Easton. Surviving is a brother, Frank, Upper Black Eddy. He also leaves other nie ces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 8 P.m. Friday at the Heck Memorial Home, Easto n. | ||
