Prominent Retired Banker and Lawyer Had been Ill More Than Six Months.

Waterloo, July 14, Geroge E. Zartman, 64 years old, retired banker and lawyer, died at his home, No. 101 Virginia street at 5 o'clock this morning, follwoing an illness of more than six momths. Death was owning to kidney trouble and hardening of the arteries. He was born at Fayette, Seneca County, on November 25, 1858, the son of George H. and Lydia M. Zartman. He was educated in teh public schools of Waterloo and Syracuse University, from which he was graduated with the class of 1883. For four years following his graduation he taught school in Waterloo and studied law, being admitted to the bar in 1887. For two years he resided in Denver Col, returing to Waterloo in 1889 and enterneing the banking house of Leonard Story shortly after. He served this inistituion as cashier until 1919.
He was married in 1892 to Miss Ella Story, daughter of MR. and Mrs. Leonard Story. He was interested in various business and manufacturing enterprises of Waterloo in addition to his work at the bank, and was president of the Waterloo wagon Company, Ltd., from 1914 to 1919. He was a member of the Seneca County Bar Association andprominent in municipal affairs. In the banking business, which he conducted since 1919, he was assocated with him his son, Leonard S. Zartman, who will continue the direction of the banking institution.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Leonard S. Zartman; one daughter, Miss Helen L. Zartman, all fo Waterloo, and one sister, Mrs. J. R. Yost, of Pomona, Cal.
Funeral services will he private, and will be held from the residence :at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. L.. Roberts, of the ! first, presbyterian Church officiating. Interment, will be' in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends who desire are Invited to call at the residence prior to noon of the day of the funeral.
