WELL-KNOWN MAN TAKES HIS OWN LIFE

DREADED OPERATION.

Reuben G. Beil Temporarily Deranged by Long Sickness and Dread of a Third Operation,. Shoots Himself With Fatal Result.

Reuben G. Beil, of State street, took his own life, Monday evening, while temporarily deranged through long sickness and prospects of a third operation of doubtful value.

Some months ago Mr. Beil was taken ill and suffered a great deal, an (Operation being finally decided upon. This gave relief at the time but Was soon followed by an operation for appendicitis. Almost immediately after this, he was attacked with a severe case of jaundice and has been terribly depressed of late.

Monday afternoon,' a council was held and one of the physicians told him he did not believe he could survive more tham ten days but there was a chance that an operation might cure him otr prolong his life. The family were to discuss the matter and make a decision that evening.

About a quarte,r of eight that evening Mr. Beil said to his wife:

"You better go outside for some fresh! air."

Mrs. Beil followed' his suggestion and soon she heard something crack or snap* such as a glass fruit jar breaking. She :gave the matter little thought but returning soon to her husband's bedside he said to her:
"I've shcit myself."

These are the only words he spoke and passed away in less than twenty minutes. The ball had entered just above the heart and had been sent there by a revolver that had lain on a shelf near by for Many years.

Needless to say the community was shocked by the news but those who knew tlje circumstances best are free to say the man was utterly deranged in mind, as both body and mind had been on a strain such as comes to few people. Under normal conditions he would be the last;man. to take his life and in this last act his friends find nothing to mar his former record as a good man and good citizen. The cummunity's kindest sympathy goes out to- the unfortunate family.

Mr, Beil was about t 6o years of age and is survived by his wife and six children.: Samuel, Henry, Fred (of Pittsburg), Hattie, Mary and. Mildred. One sister, Ella, survives and at the present time is very ill in the same house. He was a prominent carpenter and builder ,a member of the P. H. C, and the M. E. church.

Th,e funeral will be held on Thursday at o'clock, at the home, 19 Plum street.
