Old Man Kills Himself
Melancholy After a Spree. He went to the Barn and Sent a Bullet into His B reast.

John Heyer, a slater, about 61 years old, residing near the Daniel slate q uarry, in Bushkill township, three miles from Nazareth, committed suici de yesterday afternoon in the barn near his home.. He shot himself in t he left breast, the ball passing near the heart. Mr. Heyer?s body was fou nd by his wife.

Heyer was in the habit of going on sprees. After days of drinking when a ll his money had been spent, he would sober up and then become melanchol y. On two or three occasions of this kind he had threatened to head his li fe. Twice Mrs. Heyer prevented him carrying out the threat.

The old man had been on one of his sprees again lately and was soberi ng up yesterday. He remained at home in the morning. Early after dinn er he went to the barn. A little later his wife when out to see where h er husband was. She saw him laying on a lot of straw. Of the opinion th at he 2was sleeping, the women concluded to allow him to remain where he w as, rather than run the risk if his going to some place after more dr8in k. It was not until about 5 o?clock in the afternoon, when she attempt ed to arouse him, that the woman discovered her husband was dead. A physi cian who examined the remains gave out the opinion that Heyer had been de ad fully four hours when his body was found. It was plainly a case f suici de, and Coroner Schliecher, who went to the locality this morning to ma ke an investigation, decided that it was not necessary to hold an inques t. Besides his wife, the deceased leaves twelve children.
