CARRIE HORNE, 89; WAS TEACHER, HISTORIAN IN BUCKS COUNTY
The Morning Call
Mrs. Carrie Horne, 89, formerly of Springfield Township, Bucks County, di ed Wednesday in Zohlman Nursing Home, Richlandtown. She was the widow of I rwin A. Horne. A graduate of Kutztown University, she taught in Allento wn and Conshohocken and later in one-room schools in Richland Township, Bu cks County, and two-room schools in Springfield Township, Bucks County. Ho rne was the last teacher at the Passer Schoolhouse on Richlandtown Pike, w hich closed as an educational facility in 1953, and published a histo ry of the school entitled ''Schoolhouse on the Hill'' in 1974. Horne re ad portions of this history at a homecoming celebration at the school in 1 977. She also was a member of the original staff of Palisades High Schoo l, from which she retired in 1965. Born in Springfield Township, she w as a daughter of the late William and Mary (Hammel) Frankenfield. She w as a founder and past president of the Passer Community Association, a fou nder of the Springfield Township Historical Society and a member of the to wnship's historical commission. She was a member of Trinity United Chur ch of Christ, Pleasant Valley. Surviving are a daughter Irene, wife of Rob ert Heiland of Coopersburg R.1; three grandchildren and two great-granddau ghters. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church. Calling hours wi ll be 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral Home, 20 N. Ambl er St., Quakertown.
