ELMER A. AMEY
Elmer A. Amey, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died at half past fo ur o'clock Monday morning at his home, No. 30 North Nagle street. He was t aken ill with pneumonia five days ago and he sank gradually until death ca me. He was born in Upper Macungie township and was a son of the late Abrah am and Annvilla (nee Stephens) Amey. His age was fifty-one years, one mon th and nine days. He became a railroader early in life and after working f or a time for the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad, entered the employ of t he Pennsylvania Railroad at Harrisburg. He was with the latter railroad f or fifteen years, working as a brakeman and later as fireman. Several yea rs ago the train on which he was working, was wrecked near Harrisburg a nd he received injuries which for many months threatened to cost his lif e. He was finally discharged from the hospital, however, and as he was una ble to continue at his employment, he was put on the company's pension rol l. For the past two years he was employed as porter at the Windsor Caf ?. He had many friends to whom he was familiarly known as "Pete". During t he Spanish-American War he was a member of Company D., Fourth Regiment, un der Captain Charles D. Spangler. He took part in the Porto Rico campaig n. There survive six children, two brothers and three sisters. He was a me mber of Camp Schwartz, Spanish-American War Veterans, and the Pennsylvan ia Railroad Relief Association. Funeral services will be held at the resid ence of his brother, Ellsworth B. Amey, No. 341 North Tenth street, on Thu rsday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in West End Cemetery. |
