Abraham B. Amey
Corporal Abraham B. Amey, for many years a trusted employee of the Trexl er Lumber Co., and a well known Civil War Veteran, died at 9:15 o?clock Mo nday evening at the family residence, No. 322 Madison Street, aged 76 year s, 6 m0nths and 20 days.

He was in failing health for some years and on December 18th last wh en he observed his 75t birthday, his condition became serious. He rallie d, however and was able to be about the house until fur weeks ago, wh en he took to his bed.

Mr. Amey, a native of Macungie, and was a son of Conrad and Judith Amey, b oth deceased. He spent his early day there. He had an enviable war recor d, having served three enlistments during the Rebellion. ON Septemb er 6, 1861 he was mustered in as a private in Company M, Twenty-Eighth Reg iment, P. V. at Philadelphia, for a term of three years. He served in th at regiment until October 28th of the same year, when he was transferr ed to Company D., 147th Regiment, P. V. He took part in a number of engage ments. His eardrum bust on account of the heavy cannonading and he contrac ted bronchitis and was honorable discharged on account of disability at Al exandra, Va. on June 8, 1862.

The deceased, however, remained at home only a few months, and he re-enlis ted in Company H. 174th Regiment on November 1, 1862. The regiment did du ty in South Carolina and after serving two months he was mustered out of t he service on August 7, 1862.

Mr. Amey?s third enlistment lasted for nearly a year. He was muster ed in as a private in Company 4, 199th Regiment, P. V., on September, 1 4, 1864, and on October 5th following was promoted to a Corporal for effic ient service. He was present at Appomattox Court House when General Lee su rrendered. He participated in the battle of Antietam and other engagement s. He was honorable discharged on June 28, 1965.

The deceased was a resident of Allentown for 32 years and was in the empl oy of the Trexler Lumber Co for 28 years. He was relieved of his duties s ix years ago because of disability and was placed on the company?s pensi on list.

He was married to Annville Stephens, a sister of former County Commissione r, A. Monroe Stephens, and she preceded him in death. Three daughters, M iss Ella C. Amey and Mrs. Ezra Boyer, of Allentown, and Mrs. Guy Wis e, of Philadelphia; two sons, Ellsworth P. of Allentown; Miss Sarah Ame y, of Emaus, and Mrs. John Conrad, of Easton; nine grandchildren surviv e. The deceased was quiet and unassuming and was highly respected by a ll who knew him.

Mr. Amey was a member of Trinity U. E. Church and the pastor, Rev. F. S. B orkey, will officiate at the funeral services at the late home on Saturd ay afternoon at 2 o?clock. Burial will be made in West End Cemetery.
