Alderman Mutchler Dead
Well Known Resident of South Side Dies After Protracted Illness.
William Asher Mutchler, alderman in the Twelfth ward, died yesterday at h is home, 1025 Wilkes-Barre street, of a complication of ailments. He h ad been ill a long time. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Ms. Jac ob Mutchler and was born in Glendon 56 years ago.
For a number of years Mr. Mutchler and Irvin Brotzman conducted a groce ry store at Berwick and Iron streets, moving from there to Wilkes-Barre a nd Iron streets. Under the old form of city government Mr. Mutchler, a De mocrat, represented the strongly Republican Twelfth ward in Select Counci l. Later on he conducted a grocery store at Forth and Bushkill streets, r eturning to the South Side when his health failed. About a year ago he w as appointed alderman by Governor Brumbaugh.
Deceased is twice married, His second wife and the following children sur vive him; Mrs. Charles Kern, Phillipsburg; Mrs. Charles Royer, Miss Hel en Mutchler and Miss Frances Mutchler, all of Easton. Three brothers, Eug ene and Frank Mutchler, of Easton, John of St. Paul, and one sister, Mi ss Clara Mutchler, of Easton, also survive him. |
