John Jr. was baptized at Dryland Union Church. The sponsors were John Schn eider
and his wife, Margaretha. He was confirmed at Dryland Union Church on 27 A pril
1805 at the age of 15.
John Jr.'s marriage to Elizabeth Clauss appears in the records of First
Reformed Church in Easton.
John Jr. died at the age of 42 and was buried in the old cemetery at Dryla nd
Church at Hecktown. His obituary appeared in the 21 August 1832 editi on of the
"Northampton Whig" newspaper in Easton, PA. The obituary stated "Died on
Tuesday evening, a man by the name of John Hartzell, residing about thr ee miles
from Nazareth, was found dead on the public road leading from Bethlehem to
Nazareth, one mile from the former place".
John Jr. died intestate. On 18 September 1832, John Jr.'s widow, Elizabeth
Hartzell, renounced her rights to administer his estate. A bond of
administration in the amount of $600 was filed by administrators Philip Cl auss
and Jacob Hartzell. The sureties were Henry Clauss and Samuel Wilhelm. (Es tate
