Maria was baptized at Dryland Union Church. The sponsors were Henry George
and his wife. Maria was confirmed at Dryland Church on 16 April 1814 at t he age
of 14.
On 10 March 1845 Mary's father, John Hartzell Esq. of Lower Nazareth Twp.,
conveyed two tracts of land of 1) 2 acres and 41 perches and 2) 2 acres in
Lower Nazareth Twp. to her for $300. These tracts were part of an original
tract of 197 acres and 137 perches purchased by John Hartzell from the Pen ns on
28 September 1802. (Northampton Co. deed book G-7, pg. 502) In 1845 Mary w as
still unmarried (a "spinster" in the above deed) and was living in Lower
Nazareth Twp.
Sometime around 1849 Mary married Christian George. On 2 April 1849,
"Maria Hartzell, now Maria George, and husband, Christian George, carpente r,
of Lower Nazareth Twp.", sold the above two tracts of land to Edward Kreid ler,
farmer, of Lower Nazareth Twp. for $1,000. (Northampton Co. deed book A- 8, pg.
419)
On 6 April 1853, widow Mary George, by her attorney, Aaron Hartzell, of No rton
Twp., Summit Co., Ohio, sold a tract of Christian's land of three acres a nd 134
perches in Lower Nazareth Twp. to Daniel Hartzell, tailor, of Lower Nazare th
Twp. for $830. The land had been vested in Christian George who died devis ing
to his wife, Mary George. (Northampton Co. deed book G-8, pg. 137) |
