Woman is killed by automobile
Hit When about to get on board street car
Mrs. Laura Kemmerer, 81 years old, of 2415 Linden Street, Bethlehem, met a lmost instant death at about 7 o?clock last night when struck by an automo bile at the intersection of Wilson and Main streets Hellertown.
Her sister, Mrs. Gertrude Hoffert, of 1352 North Main Street, Hellertow n, struck at the same time was treated by Dr. F I Deibert Jr of Hellertow n, for bruises of the head in left shoulder. Hellertown police are holdi ng a driver of the car, Edward Geyer, 19, of 742 in Easton Road, Hellertow n, on $1000 bail bond pending action by the county authorities.
Dr. David F. Bachman, corner of Northampton County, who made the investiga tion assisted by Captain Vincent Coughlin, of the Hellertown Borough Polic e, said the death of Mrs. Kemmerer resulted from fractures of several ri bs on the left side, a fractured left leg near the knee and shock.
The ambulance from St. Luke?s Hospital had been summoned but the woman w as pronounced dead by Dr. Deibert.
Both women, according to Dr. Bachman, were about to get on the Bethlehem b ound trolley car , when hit by the Geyer car also traveling north on Ma in street, Geyer was said to have been following another car which if pass ed by the women.
Geyer taken into custody by Captain Coughlin was released when he posted b ail. |
