Newman Laros Passes Away
Retired Contractor Was Active in Democratic Politics
Newman Henry Laros, a retired contracting bricklayer and plasterer, a nd a former member of Easton Select and Cohunon Councils, died on Sund ay morning at 3 o'clock at his home, No. 501 Reeder street, College Hil l, of a complication of ailments. He had been in failing health for two y ears and had been confined to his room for the past seven weeks. He w as 68 years of age on October 4.

Mr. Laros was born on Chestnut Hill, In Forks Township, and was a so of t he late Henry W. and Mary Raub Laros. Early in life he learned the brickla ying and plastering trade and later he embarked in business as a contracto r. Nearly all his life was spent on College Hill. In 1904 he retired a nd moved to Bethlehem township where he resided until 1918 when he moved b ack to his home at 501 Reeder street, College hill. While residing in Bet hlehem township, he served two full terms as a member of the township scho ol board and had started on his third term, when he resigned and moved ba ck to Easton.
Deceased was active in Democratic politics and served in Common Counc il of the City of Easton, from the Third War, from April 1, 1901 to Apr il 1, 1903. He was then elected as a member of Select Council from the Th ird Ward and served from April1, 1903 to April 1, 1904. While in Council s, he served on important committees and took a great interest in municip al affairs.

Mr. Laros was a member of the Jacksonian Democratic Association. He w as a member and former elder and deacon of Grace Reformed Church, Colle ge Hill, and served on the building committee which erected the present ed ifice.

His widow, Mrs. Mary M. Laros, survives him with seven children; Clau de R. Laros, of Phillipsburg; Roscoe H., Ralph W. and Harold M. Laro s, of College Hill; Mrs. Warren V. Schweitzer, of Bethlehem Township; Mr s. Henry T. Ott. of Wilson Borough and Miss Mary M. Laros, living at hom e. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Frederick W. Lee, Mrs. Erasmus A. S tofflet, and Mrs. Clara Fretz, Easton; Mrs. Jacob Yeager of Atlantic Cit y. Four grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Laros was known as a quiet unassuming man and was always ready to assi st in charitable and church work. In his business dealing he was fair a nd honest and during his long residence in Easton had made many friends.
