Born on Island That Is No More
Joseph Shannon died early this morning at his home in Plainfield Township, of general debility, aged 81 years and 7 months. He was the last of ten children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. G. Shannon, and was born in Warren County, on an island in the Delaware below Sandt’s Eddy, where his father ran a saw mill. This island has since been washed away by the many freshets. Deceased was a contractor and a builder for many years. For thirty years he was superintendent of the Delabole Union Sunday school and did not miss a Sunday service for 25 years. Besides his widow, he is survived by the following children; Mrs. Albert Hendershot, of Bethlehem; Mrs. Irwin Ackerman, Mrs. Walter Ede, of Pen Argyl; Miss Daisy Shannon, at home, and Joseph M. Shannon, of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; also by thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the late home, with interment in the Fairview cemetery, Pen Argyl. |
