Alvin P. Mengel, 74, Former Bangor Area School Director

Alvin P. "Jiggs" Mengel, 74, a former Bangor Area School Board director, d ied Thursday at his Bangor R.4 home. He was the husband of the late Edna ( Kachline) Mengel.

He was a custodian for the school district before retiring in 1978. He al so farmed in the Bangor area, 1945-70.

Mengel was president of the Church Hill Cemetery Board and Lower Mount Bet hel Township Senior Citizens Club.

Born in Easton, he was a son of the late William F. and Annie M. (Babp) Me ngel.

He was a member and former council president of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chu rch, Martins Creek.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.

Surviving are three sons, Kim, Wayne and Lee, and two daughters, Kay, wi fe of Gordon Saylor, and Shawn, all of Bangor; three brothers, Wilmer of O rlando, Fla., Lester of Palmer Township and Frank of Pen Argyl; three sist ers, Ruth, wife of Roy Kline of Easton, Mrs. Christine Edleston of Mims, F la., and Martha, wife of John Cornelius of Martins Creek; seven grandchild ren and a great-granddaughter. A son Neil died in 1984.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the James J. Palmeri Funeral Home, R oute 611 and Alpha Ave., Martins Creek. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p. m. Sunday.
